The King Of MX is the hottest new event in Motocross, with a Final staged on the biggest, meanest, fastest track in Australia, and it is the home of the two richest races in the country for both male and female racers.
It is also the home of the battle for the NSW State Championships.
There are 6 qualifying events, where riders will race for one of a handful of Golden Tickets in each class which will guarantee them a gate at the Final. The Final will be on the June Long Weekend at Coonabarabran for those competitors who have qualified. Both seniors and juniors will run on the same weekends at all events.
State Titles in each class will be decided over 3 motos at the Final event.
The Final event will also see two feature races for seniors, where the King Of MX and the Queen Of MX will be crowned, with a huge $10,000 winner’s cheque awaiting each of them.
Under 16’s will race for the title of Prince and Princess of MX.
This event promises to be epic. Massive prizemoney, massive track, massive event, and massive talents on display with male and female riders from across the country, and some from across the globe coming to try and take home their respective crowns.
- WHAT IS THE KING OF MX EXACTLY?
At the end of the Final event, once all the State Titles have been decided, the top riders from MX1, MX2, Under 19s, Veterans, and C Grade, will be placed in one All Powers feature race. They will race for a huge $10,000 prize purse… winner takes all… no second prize. Even more importantly, they will be crowned the 2018 King Of MX, soon to be the most prestigious MX title in the country. They will also be immortalised in cartoon form by our artist and become the main poster character for the next year’s event.
- SO WHAT IS THE QUEEN OF MX?
Pretty much the same as the King Of MX… an all female, All Powers race for the top 40 senior ladies. Same prizemoney as the guys, only a different crown. This will be the biggest event female MX has ever seen in Australia.
- HOW WILL THE STATE TITLES BE DETERMINED?
There will be 3 Motos for each class at the final event, and the State Titles will be determined on a point score basis using the points system in the GCRs. Results at Qualifying events have no bearing on the State Title results, only results at the Final event will count.
- HOW DO I QUALIFY?
There are 6 regional qualifiers spread out around NSW in the first half of 2018. To qualify for the final on the June long weekend, you will need to enter a qualifier and finish in the top 6 in your class (top 5 in MX1) on a point score basis for that event. Riders who qualify will be awarded a Golden Ticket to the final and can then place their entry for the Final.
- WHAT IF I MISS OUT ON THE TOP 6 AT MY LOCAL QUALIFIER?
No problem. You are welcome to enter another qualifier and have another shot. You can keep trying until you score a Golden Ticket.
- HOW MANY QUALIFIERS CAN I RIDE IN?
As many as you like, but once you have received a Golden Ticket to the final, there is nothing for you to win by going to another qualifier.
- WHAT IF I COME 7TH AND GET BEATEN BY A RIDER WHO HAS ALREADY QUALIFIED PREVIOUSLY?
Riders can only qualify once. For example, if a rider finishes top 6 and qualifies at Round 4 and then rides at Round 5 and finishes in the top 6 again, they will not get another Golden Ticket to the final, we will give it to the rider who comes 7th in that class. So the riders who qualify at each event will be the 6 best placed riders who have not already qualified for the final. MX1 class will have 5 riders qualify per qualifying event.
- ARE THERE ANY “WILD CARD” ENTRIES TO THE FINAL FOR RIDERS WHO ARE FORCED TO MISS THE QUALIFIERS?
Yes. Every class will have at least 4 gate positions in the final available for “wild card” entries. These positions will be determined by the Organising Committee and may be used for such situations as invitations for national or international riders, riders who have missed the qualifying series through injury, etc.
- WHAT IF A RIDER QUALIFIES BUT CHOOSES NOT TO ENTER THE FINAL?
We will offer their gate position at the final to the next rider on the finishing results from the event they qualified at.
- WHY IS THE FINAL AT COONABARABRAN?
The Goanna Tracks facility is home to the biggest, widest, meanest, fastest race track in NSW, probably in the country. The soil is perfect, the venue is brilliant, and the track is incredible. It is a track befitting an iconic race. Goanna tracks is also home to our newest race club, the Coonabarabran MX and Enduro Club.
- WILL WE RACE “THE RIDGE”?
Yes. We are rebuilding The Ridge. For those who haven’t seen it, Goanna Tracks has a section which has not been ridden on since the last time MX Nationals was held there in 2012, which we lovingly call The Ridge. The majority of the track is at the base of a mountain range, but there is part of it that goes up the mountain, over the top, then turns around and flies back down again. It is full of massive step up jumps and even bigger jumps on the way down. It is super fast, super big, and is destined to help us determine just who the King and Queen really are. It’s not for the faint of heart. Only the seniors will race the Ridge. This will be your one chance every year to ride it, as we will not open it for any other event.
